Leeds United v Burnley - 14th September 2024

As the sun shone down on the iconic Elland Road stadium, Leeds were getting ready to face Burnley in a 12:30 afternoon kickoff.

Just before kickoff, the players along with the whole stadium stood up to give Sol Bamba, our ex player a minute applause in celebration of his life, which was sadly cut short due to illness, RIP Sol.

The game got off to a flyer when Matteo Joseph dispossessed the ball from the Burnley defender, charged down the goal keeper only for him to shoot wide, a big opportunity wasted!

We all took our breath as the next 5 minutes flew by.

On the 6th minutes the players stopped the game, and in unison with the crowd, stood up and gave a moving one minute applause to a 6 year old fan named Bob, who sadly died of cancer, RIP Bob.

The game continued, Leeds clearly had the upper hand and the majority of the ball, but on the 17th minute disaster struck, when Solomon slipped, giving Koleosho the ball, with Bogle out of position it was a 60 yards dash towards the Leeds goal, Bogle managed to get back, but Koleosho shot across goal through the legs of Bogle and into the Leeds net, a cruel blow.

The 22nd minute saw Gnonto shoot from 6 yards out, only to find the keeper, another chance not taken. Leeds kept pushing for the equaliser, the crowd erupted on the 36th minute when a clear cut penalty wasn't given.

The second half didn't improve much, as Burnley were content to sit in a low block, and whittle away the minutes. Joseph came close on the 51st minute shooting across goal, which would have got the top corner if it wasn't for a fine save by the Burnley keeper.

A crowd of 36,405 saw the minutes run down, and even with 8 minutes added time and a sending off of the Burnley man, Leeds could not rescue a point. Burnley had delivered the perfect game plan and the Leeds manager Daniel Farke could not do anything to beat it.

Final score: Leeds United 0 - Burnley 1

Chiltern Whites Man of the Match: Illia Gruev.
